Just realized that I have two progress reports to go. I almost forgot about them since we talked about everyone’s progress every week so no one was left behind. Ok, I have some progress in past two weeks and I think that was pretty much my final shooting for the doc. I drove to Bastrop which was my VERY first time driving more than 15 minutes(it was 1 hour and 15mins driving!) to visit a Chinese Herb doctor who has his own bees hive.
The reason I went all the way over there to interview him is because his motivation of having bees is different from others(most of the time they just take it as a hobby). Basically it has something to do with the process of making Chinese herb. Though I grew up in a environment where lots of Chinese herbs around, I never knew that honey could be used that way. He has a few herbal formula which requires to use honey to bind all herbal powder together. That is call 'honey pills'. Chinese herb medicine has thousand of years history, there are too many things that I don't know!
So honey is an important ingredient for him. But he doesn't have actual honey from his bee hive right now, so I wasn’t able to take some shoots of it. What a pity!
I interviewed him for nearly 1 hour. But I don’t know if it’s because I use mandarin to talk with him, he seemed so happy and talked a lot(He’s from Taiwan too.) However, he talked way too much but not exactly answered to my questions. So it really bothered me when I did the editing. He’s a 61-year-old man and has been through a lot of things. I enjoyed talking with him, but it was just not what I expected for my project. Anyway, I still got lots of good stuffs to show.
